Do I need an appointment?
No. Puglisi HairCuts is walk-in only: come down the stairs, say hello, and take the next open chair, or ask for a barber by name and wait for him. Saturdays and the lunch hour can mean a short wait; early weekday mornings are the quietest.
Is Puglisi HairCuts cash only?
Yes. Puglisi HairCuts is cash only and does not take credit cards. There is an ATM nearby on the Foggy Bottom corridor, so bring bills or plan a stop on the way.
How much is a haircut?
About $40 for a classic men's cut; ask the chair for today's price. The shop has never printed a laminated menu: it opened in 1960 at $1.50 and the price has moved with the decades.
Where is Puglisi HairCuts, and where is the entrance?
2040 I Street NW, Washington, DC 20006, in Foggy Bottom between 20th and 21st, in an English basement: a short flight of stairs down from the sidewalk. Look for the blue oval "Puglisi HairCuts · Established 1960" sign on the red brick and the barber pole.
What are Puglisi HairCuts' hours?
Monday to Friday 8am to 6pm, Saturday 8am to 5pm, closed Sunday. Walk-ins only; no appointments.
Which Metro stop is closest to Puglisi HairCuts?
Foggy Bottom–GWU on the Blue, Orange, and Silver lines is about a five-minute walk; Farragut West is about six. The shop sits in the Shops at 2000 Penn block, a block off Pennsylvania Avenue.
Is there parking?
Street parking on I Street and the numbered cross streets is metered, and there are garages in the surrounding office blocks. Most regulars walk over from GW, the World Bank, the IMF, the State Department, or GW Hospital.
Do you cut children's hair?
Yes. Kids are welcome, fathers hold the phone, and the barbers are patient with first haircuts.
Do you cut women's hair?
Yes, classic cuts for women as well as men. It is a barbershop, not a salon.
Do you do shaves and beard trims?
Yes. Ask the chair for a straight-razor shave or a beard trim along with the cut.
What languages do the barbers at Puglisi HairCuts speak?

Can I ask for a specific barber?
Yes. Tony, Abel, José, and David all take requests by name; customers have followed some of them for thirty years. If you have no preference, take the next chair open.
How long has Puglisi's been open?
Since April 23, 1960. Three Foggy Bottom addresses, one owner, and a Mayoral Salute from the District in June 2025 for more than 65 years in business.
Is the shop wheelchair accessible?
The entrance is down a short flight of stairs from the sidewalk. If you need level access or a hand, call (202) 833-2175 before you come and the shop will advise.
Should I bring a photo of the cut I want?
Please do. A photo plus a sentence about what you did not like last time gets you the cut you mean, in any of the five languages.
Do you take tips in cash?
Yes, cash, like everything else in the room.
